MARORPHALI-Indian screw tree

The tree gets its name from the structure of its pods (fruits), which are unusually twisted. The pods are strange-looking deformed capsules made of five fibres tightly twisted together the shape of a screw. It comes in a variety of lengths ranging from one inches to two and a half inches.

The plant is anticancer, hypolipidemic, antimicrobial, anti-plasmid, cardiac antioxidant, anodyne, hepatoprotective, and anti-diarrheal.

The bark and fruits have traditionally been used to cure diarrhoea, worm infestation, unpleasant sores in the ear, colic, flatulence, & chronic dysentery. Diabetes is treated using the root bark. It works in diabetes by increasing insulin sensitivity.

Marorphali Medicinal Uses

The shape and look of the plant component itself, according to the philosophy of signatures, suggests its application. Maror phali pods are twisted like intestines and are mostly used to treat digestive ailments such as colic, gas, diarrhoea, and dysentery. Other notable therapeutic applications include diabetes and, more locally, otorrhoea (discharge from ear).

Marorphali fruit and bark are astringent, anti-diarrheal, and anthelmintic. They are most typically used to treat digestive problems such as bowel griping and flatulence, diarrhoea, dysentery, & worm infestation.
