RECIPE for Poppy Seeds

 

poppy seeds can be included in your diet by making these dishes:

1. Halwa made of poppy seeds[khas khas]


 

INGREDIENTS:

100 gm poppy seed (khas khas), soaked overnight in water
half a cup (125 gm) ghee
2 quarts milk
8 powdered green cardamoms
half a cup sugar
2-3 blanched almonds for garnish

METHOD:

  • Wash the khus khus, taking care to remove any residual grit or mud.
  • Drain excess water in a colander.
  • In a kadhai or heavy-bottomed pan, heat the ghee and add the khus khus. Cook over low heat until golden brown.
  • Add the milk and cardamom powder and cook until the moisture evaporates. Add the sugar and continue to sauté.
  • Garnish with almonds if desired.

2. Poppy seeds curry

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

INGREDIENTS:

2 onions, medium size
2 tablespoons poppy seeds
1 green pepper
1 crushed ginger
1 teaspoon cumin seed
1 dry red pepper, to taste Salt
2 tablespoons mustard oil

METHOD:

  • 2 medium-sized onions, chopped
  • Soak poppy seeds for half an hour in lukewarm water. Drain the water and blend the poppy seed with 1 chopped green chilli, 1 crushed ginger, and a little water to obtain a fine paste. Set aside.
  • In a kadai, heat the oil. When the oil has reached a high temperature. Fry the onion until it turns light brown.
  • Then stir in 1 teaspoon red chilli powder, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, and salt. Mix thoroughly.
  • Mix in the poppy seed paste. Mix it thoroughly until the raw smell of the masala has dissipated. Then, as needed, add water. Boil until the water runs clear. When it's finished.
  • Place on a serving plate. Garnish with zesty coriander leaves if desired. Serving with steaming hot rice.

3. Poppy seeds salad

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup cherry tomatoes, diced

feta cheese, 1/4 cup

chickpeas, 1/2 cup

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

1 tablespoon seeds of poppy

METHOD:

Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix then well combine. Enjoy the nutritious salad.
