What Is Vidarikhand/ Bilaikand , and What Does It Mean?
Vidarikhand, also known as Pueraria tuberosa, is a perennial
herb that belongs to the Fabaceae (pea) family and is regarded as one of Mother
Nature's most nutritious medicinal herbs. Vidarikhand, also known as Indian
Kudzu, has a widespread tuberous root structure and a coiling, ascending,
trailing vine. The sweet-tasting tuberous roots are globose, starchy, and white
in colour. The juvenile branches are pubescent in grey. The leaves of this
tuberous plant are trifoliate and alternating, and the leaflets are egg-shaped
with a circular base and uneven edges, similar to those of Palash. Flowers with
a blue as well as purplish-blue tone are frequently bisexual in nature.
The plant is native to India, Pakistan, and Nepal, and may
be found growing at a height of around 4000 feet in the Himalayas and other
parts of India, including Mount Abu, Punjab, Sikkim, Kumaon, Western Uttar
Pradesh, & Central India.
Due to its galactagogue activity, ayurvedic practitioners
employed the globous rhizomes of this remarkable plant to improve the
production of milk in new mothers in ancient times. It also aided in raising
both the quality and quantity of sperm in males, as well as improving sperm
motility and stimulating desire during sexual intercourse, due to its
significant spermatogenic qualities. This plant's edible tubers have also been
used to alleviate chest discomfort, fever, and rheumatism. It has also been
reported to help with weight growth, improving voice quality, increasing
reproductive processes, and treating infertility in both males and females.
