BAIBIDANG/VIDANGA- Embilia Ribes

This plant is known as fake pepper seeds & white flowered embelia in Ayurveda. This versatile plant is used to treat a range of ailments, although it is most commonly used to treat worm infestations. According to Achraya sushrut, its fruit is anti-helminthic and a tonic to strengthen. It, together with mulethi roots, supplies energy to the body. Vidanga is utilised to remove excessive vata dosha from the gut. It is utilised to activate rasdhatva agni, which accelerates body metabolism and aids in the removal of excess fat from the body. Vidanga is an Ayurvedic plant that is used as an instrument of power and tonic. Vidanga's dry seeds mimic pepper seeds, hence the plant is sometimes known as fake black pepper. Vidanga seeds is best used after a year of storage.

This plant was characterised by Rajnighantu as having light qualities, a pungent flavour, and a hot potency. It is utilised to bring vata and kapha into equilibrium. Vidanga has been shown to significantly improve anorexia & digestive fire.

Embelia is also known as vidanga, krimighna, jantunashan, tandul,vail, amogha, and chitartandul. This penetrating plant has a strong flavour and a scorching intensity. It is a dry herb that is used to increase digestive fire. It is also extremely light to digest.
